Staphylococcal scalded skin syndrome

Although formerly known as toxic epidermal necrolysis, it is now known to be due to an epidermolytic exotoxin from a staphylococcus. It is seen mainly in children. The skin is tender and peels off in sheets leaving a raw oozing denuded skin. It responds rapidly to appropriate antibiotics.
